FAQ's
Q. What is Streaming Media?
A. Streaming media is live and/or archived audio, video, multimedia content, delivered in near real-time to an end user computer via the Internet or an Intranet.
Q. Why is streaming better than downloading?
A. When you download a file you must wait for the entire file to download before viewing it. This can greatly increase the amount of time and bandwidth resources it takes to view a presentation. Additionally many computers do not have the storage capacity to store a long presentation. Streamed presentations are experienced as they are downloaded, and generally not stored on the clients system. Viewers do not need to wait for the file to download to experience it.
Q. What format of film do you require to be able to convert it into streaming media?
A. We can handle just about any type of film media you have, be it 8MM, VHS, SVHS, DV, Beta, etc.
Q. Can anyone record my presentation?
A. The ability to record your presentation is set at the time of encoding, so you as the presentation owner have control over the ability to record.
Q. What do I need to experience streaming media?
A. You will need a PC with a sound card and speakers and an Internet or network connection. You also will need a media player. We recommend the Windows Media player, which is available as a FREE download. WBC Imaging maintains a link to the Microsoft Windows Media site, as do most sites that have streaming media on their websites.
Q. How much does it cost to put streaming media on a website?
A. There are a number of factors involved in presenting a streaming presentation. This makes it difficult to build a "fixed" price list. Archived (other than live events) audio-only events, targeted to a limited audience, will be less expensive than an archived half hour video presentation that has an audience of millions. We will be happy to discuss with you the options and pricing for your particular needs.
Q. How do I host my streaming presentation?
A.Most streaming presentations can be handeled by an http web server with the correct mime type. Check with your site host and consult with us about hosting..
