STREAMING TECHNOLOGY
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Streaming Media? Streaming media is live and/or
archived audio, video, multimedia content, delivered in near realtime to an end
user computer via the Internet or an Intranet. WBC Imaging believes that this
is an ideal medium for the delivery of corporate communications and business
information.
Why is streaming better than downloading? When you
download a file you must wait for the entire file to download before viewing
it. This can greatly increase the amount of time and bandwidth resources it
takes to view a presentation. Additionally many computers do not have the
storage capacity to store a long presentation. Streamed presentations are
experienced as they are downloaded, and generally not stored on the clients
system. Viewers do not need to wait for the file to download to experience it.
Can anyone record my presentation? The ability to
record your presentation is controlled from the server, so you as the
presentation owner has control over the ability to record.
What do I need to experience streaming media? You will
need a PC with a sound card and an Internet or network connection. You also
will need a client player, WBC Imaging recommends the Real Networks G2 player
which is available for free download. WBC Imaging maintains a link to the Real
Networks site.
How much does it cost? There are many factors involved
in presentating a streaming presentation which makes it impossible to build a
static price list. Archived audio-only events, targeted to a limited audience,
will be correspondingly less expensive than an archived half hour video
presentation that has an audience of millions. WBC Imagings sales and technical
staff we be glad to discuss with you the options and pricing for your
presentation.
